SMU

Assistant Professor in the Division of Journalism (Position Number 053188)

 

The Division of Journalism invites nominations and applications for an assistant professor who will join in shaping our innovative approach to the training of 21st century journalists.  In particular, we seek an imaginative scholar-teacher who will help expand our understanding of the evolving role of journalism in a global, multimedia context. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to develop one or more new critical-studies courses in journalism and communication. We welcome candidates from all backgrounds. This tenure-track position begins August 2010.

Requirements

Minimum qualifications: Ph.D. in journalism or communication and five years’ professional media experience. Applicants must have a specific research agenda to present as a part of the application process as well as a record of appropriate scholarship and successful teaching experience.

 

Preferred qualifications: 10 years’ professional media experience.  Strong preference will be given to candidates whose professional experience, teaching and research reflect expertise in digital media as well as an emphasis on Latin American or other international journalism.
