Job Description
This is an exciting ground floor opportunity for a highly motivated news professional. The ideal candidate will have the passion to thrive in a start up environment, will oversee the development and growth of the news department, and be on the ground floor of a new and exciting online venture.

Job Description: The Managing Editor, Online is responsible for the day-to-day management of the online news operation, including leading digital efforts of the newsroom, and overseeing its newsgathering and related digital channels. In addition, the Managing Editor is part of the senior leadership team responsible for setting the overall digital strategy for the site. The Editor works closely with management and staff to ensure that the site is advancing its newsgathering mission on multiple platforms, growing audience and embracing innovative ways to cover news. The Managing Editor reports to the President & CEO.

The Managing Editor implements new tactics that more creatively connect the site’s news platform with its Web site. Along with the daily newsgathering operations, the Managing Editor will coordinate content on the home page. With audience building as an imperative, the Managing Editor will stay current with trends, metrics and competitors.

Position Responsibility:

-Oversee news presentation of the site. - Participate in setting vision for the site and all digital platforms. - Serve as the primary link between digital and the newsroom, and help promote digital goals and strategy. - Collaborate on initiatives and integrate efforts into the newsroom and the site. - Lead online newsgathering efforts and projects of the newsroom. - Work to ensure news content scales across multiple platforms. - Track emerging technologies that might be considered by the site. - Collaborate with other members of the digital team to build and or integrate appropriate tools and applications. - Manage site development, site maintenance and updating of news. - Provide any necessary digital training for news staff. - Advocate experimentation on multiple platforms by journalists. - Supervise, critique, and support digital efforts by journalists, i.e., blogging, tweeting, podcasting, etc. - Support reporters and freelancers in the development of original, award-winning online content. - Actively pursue awards for online excellence. - Closely monitor Web statistics, and actively develop tactics and strategies for growing Web traffic. - Work closely with other departments, including marketing, to fully promote regional online news content. - Hire, supervise, train and manage direct staff through coaching (on reporting, writing and delivery), mentorship, performance meetings and on-going feedback. - Create training opportunities and individualized development plans for staff.

Requirements
- Experience in broadcast, print or online journalism. Print experience a plus. - Senior online leadership experience is required. - Must demonstrate an ability to foster high standards and an ability to coach inspire and lead. - Experience/accomplishments in multimedia reporting. - Accomplishment in growing audience. - Experience with a variety of web publishing platforms.
