Job Description
The Executive Director will be responsible for sustaining the association's growth and development by supporting and executing existing programs and introducing new and creative ways to generate revenue and to help the organization and its members adapt to widespread changes in the marketplace. Specifically, the Executive Director will:

- Oversee all association operations and provision of member services
- Organize convention and conference programming for member publishers, editors and ad directors
- Work collaboratively with the Board, Executive Committee to establish policies and set the direction of the organization
- Oversee financial operations of the organization, including budgeting, bookkeeping and financial reporting
- Manage a small staff, member volunteers, and outside vendors
- Organize and facilitate Board and Committee meetings to allow for effective and efficient decision-making
- Serve as the primary liaison to the press and other industry-related organizations

The AAN office is located three blocks from the White House in downtown Washington, D.C. Candidates from outside the Washington area who are willing to relocate are encouraged to apply.

Requirements
The successful candidate will have excellent written and oral communications skills; strong organizational and management skills; the ability to deal with diverse constituencies and adversarial situations with tact and professionalism; and strong computer skills and a sharp understanding of how the internet and other new information technologies are transforming the newspaper business and providing associations with new ways to serve their members. Association management experience and a college degree are preferred.
