Chief of Bureau - South Atlantic
The Associated Press seeks a Chief of Bureau for its South Atlantic operations.







Based in Atlanta, the chief of bureau leads business development and manages AP's relationship with 126 newspaper members in Georgia, North Carolina and South Carolina, as well as works with broadcast members across the same territory. This will be a new consolidated territory. This individual works with the regional vice president, South Regional News Desk and photo directors and local news and photo managers to establish and execute goals for improving news, producing revenue and preserving the AP's strong relationships with its members. The chief will be the lead customer contact for important groups such as Cox Media, Community Newspaper Holdings Inc., Morris Communications, Evening Post, Triple Crown Media, Boone Newspapers Inc. and Walls New Media. He or she works with News to manage reporting resources and bureaus in Atlanta, Raleigh, N.C., Columbia, S.C., Charlotte, N.C., Savannah, Ga. and Charleston, S.C. This person identifies market needs and product and service development opportunities; and is a creative thinker who will take on other business development work as assigned. The chief of bureau is responsible for newspaper revenue from the region and for managing expenses and administration of business operations. This person builds member participation in cooperative efforts, including news sharing efforts. The chief helps newspapers and broadcast members integrate AP news coverage and products in both traditional and new media platforms. The incumbent represents the AP in the region's journalism community and is active in Freedom of Information and public access issues.







QUALIFICATIONS:







The ideal candidate will have a proven record of developing and building relationships with newspapers, broadcast and new-media news and business operations. This person must have experience managing news coverage, staff and services across news platforms (print, Web, mobile, niche sites, blogs and e-newsletters). The candidate will possess supervisory experience with online news operations, social media and online communities. Skills in analyzing metrics will be essential. The applicant must be able to develop market sales strategies and build participation in strategic initiatives, articulate business benefits and news values and goals. He or she will be capable of managing competing priorities and multiple projects, and works well across divisions and reporting lines.







The bureau chief must be a self-starter, organized and efficient, demonstrate initiative and the ability to negotiate effectively. He or she must be able to recognize and act on opportunities to improve and enhance bureau news and business operations. This person should have five years of supervisory experience at a daily newspaper, broadcast station or AP bureau.
