Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Senior Editor, Banking will serve as the North American banking regulatory intelligence expert and will provide lead analytical coverage in North America of the key developments in banking industry regulation and their application to compliance professionals.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Write analytical articles and practice advice based on extensive research and insights into prudential regulation and the compliance profession.
  • Contribute rapid analyses to breaking news coverage of major developments in government regulatory policy and financial events (such as insolvency, crime and economic turmoil).
  • Work with staff journalists covering issues including banking, security and continuity, federal policy and anti-money laundering both in North America and other regions.
  • Appear on Thomson Reuters electronic media or public forums as an expert on prudential regulation.
  • Assist sales, marketing and product development staff by contributing detailed knowledge of banking compliance requirements and processes.

Requirements

EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION: Bachelor's degree with a minimum five years’ experience in prudential regulation or compliance. An advanced professional degree in law, business, finance or related field is preferable.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE:      

  • Knowledge of the banking industry and duties of financial services compliance officers.
  • Knowledge of U.S. financial services regulations, regulatory process and political process, Canadian regulatory knowledge desired but not required.
  • Knowledge of Web content management systems including editor software used by Compliance Complete.

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:  

  • Demonstrated ability to write clearly for publication.
  • Experience in the banking industry in a Compliance, Legal, Risk or Audit function.
  • Working knowledge of PC applications and terminology.

 ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND ABILITIES:                     

  • Strong analytical and writing skills.
  • Solid news judgment.
  • Broadcast media and public speaking.
  • Ability to develop a broad stable of influential contacts within the financial services industry and government regulatory agencies.
  • Strong time management and ability to apply news judgment in allocating priorities.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills.
  • Good listening skills; problem solving and the ability to handle multiple journalism projects is necessary.
